Head Start Early Child Development Center General Description Under the direction of the Center Manager, the Teacher Assistant will be responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate classroom activities according to the requirements of the Head Start Performance Standards, Georgia Bright from the Start:
Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) Rules and Regulations, and Tallatoona CAP, Inc.
and develop a team approach to classroom teaching in collaboration with the Teacher.
Duties and Responsibilities Assist Teacher with maintaining classroom management and coordinating the daily activities of the Head Start classroom.
Helps Teacher use the program curriculum to develop lesson plans for classroom and supportive activities both indoors and outdoors to ensure individualization for child development Maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment for the children, indoors and outdoors, in accordance with agency guidelines.
Provide constant supervision of children at all times.
Helps conduct on-going observations and anecdotal records of children in his/her care.
Use records and screenings to develop daily and weekly lesson plans meeting the needs of the children and meeting weekly planned objectives.
Assist teacher with home visits and parent conferences, and maintaining proper records within agency time frame.
Helps prepare information for Individual Education Programs (IEP) based on observations.
Attend IEP meetings as required by supervisor.
Promote consistent child attendance in the classroom.
Prepare monthly parent calendar.
Refer to the IEP(s) for individualization on lesson plans.
Attend required training and meetings as specified by the agency.
Participate in Open House and Parent Meetings as required by supervisor.
Articulate in defining and explaining the eight domains of learning and how the curriculum meets the domains.
Participates in recruitment activities (children and classroom volunteers) as required by supervisor.
Diaper and bathe children (if necessary) in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
Follows nutrition and health guidelines for the Family Style meals and hygiene practices (tooth brushing, hand washing etc) Reports all needs related to service area delivery to the Center Manager.
Maintain confidential files in accordance with agency procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must be effective in both verbal and written communication skills Must have ability to plan and organize Must be able to attend required meetings and trainings at various locations Must have the ability to work with individuals inclusive of all ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds Must be able to lift 50 pounds and must be able to work a flexible schedule Both oral and written English/Spanish bilingual skills preferred Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
Must have access to a vehicle, a valid drivers' license and maintain adequate liability insurance Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED CDA Certificate or Early Childhood Diploma or actively enrolled and participating in a CDA/ECE program Work Environment This job operates in a childcare environment.
This role routinely requires interactions with children, parents, noisy and fast paced day to day activities.
Require uses of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
